Learning and Growing Together
Learn about the importance of courage, service, determination and so many more values through age appropriate readings, activities, and projects
Every month pick a new fun subject to learn about. From the earth around you to the sky above, it’s all part of these fun hands-on classes. These classes are broken down into learning through play, sampling fun things and creating things based on age and ability.
Here is a link to the reasoning behind our classes.
Our elective teachers are professionals from the community that come to teach our kids everything from cake decorating, to dance, to archery and martial arts.
We often enrich our curriculum with field trips around the area and sometimes farther. Some of these are attached to a class and some are opportunities that parents have found and shared.
Parents of Junior school aged children (1-12) have a teaching requirement. We only charge the cost of supplies and overhead and so this how we have classes. At minimum each family is responsible for 2 six-week Lollipop classes each semester. Usually these are taught by the mom on a subject that they are passionate about. They have also been taught by fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers, local volunteers etc.
We no longer clean as part of our trade, but each family will be asked to help clean up after ourselves.
Mom’s needs are important too! We are the heart of the family. When we don’t have the support and friendship of other like-minded moms we can sometimes struggle to stay upbeat and fulfilled. This is why during the last hour of co-op we hire community members to come in and we have an hour for mom time. We have discussed books or podcasts, shared our passions, or homeschool wins etc. We also try to get together monthly for mom only activities. And our favorite thing is our moms retreat, scheduled once/year in August where we go up to Island Park for an overnight refilling of our cups.
